Convert PNG to ICO for your favicon.

Browsers still ask every site for /favicon.ico, and Windows uses ICO for app and shortcut icons. One ICO holds several sizes, so each place picks the sharpest; this makes all six from your PNG, transparency included.

Your files never leave your device.

How to convert PNG to ICO

  1. 1
    Add a square PNG

256 × 256 pixels or larger works best. Other shapes are centered on a transparent square.

  2. 2
    Pick the sizes

All six are included. For a favicon, 16, 32 and 48 are what browsers use.

  3. 3
    Download favicon.ico

Rename it to favicon.ico and put it at the top of your site.

Questions people ask

Which sizes does a favicon need?
16 and 32 pixels for browser tabs and bookmarks, 48 for Windows. The larger sizes are for desktop shortcuts and high-density screens.
Does the icon keep transparency?
Yes. Each size is stored as a PNG inside the ICO, which every current browser and Windows reads.
My logo isn't square. What happens?
It's scaled to fit and centered, with transparent space on the shorter sides. Crop it to a square first if you'd rather fill the whole icon.
Is my logo uploaded?
Yes. The conversion runs in your browser, so the files stay on your device: nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by us.
