Does PNG keep AVIF transparency?

Yes, PNG has a full alpha channel, so see-through areas come out exactly the same.

Why is the PNG several times larger?

AVIF compresses heavily and PNG doesn't compress photos well. Use AVIF to JPG if you need a small file.

Is anything uploaded?

Yes. The conversion runs in your browser, so the files stay on your device: nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by us.
